After a long, busy day you sometimes just need a drink. And sometimes it’s hard to muster the energy to go to the liquor store. That’s where Drizly comes in. Drizly is one of the most accessible alcohol delivery services in the US. It is available in 31 states and more than 1,500 cities. The brand keeps it local by partnering with independent liquor stores near you to provide a great selection and fast delivery.

I placed an order with Drizly to find out exactly how the service works and if it’s worth using. I found that while it was more expensive than going to the store yourself, the convenience of having alcohol delivered to your home and the speedy delivery made up for the extra cost. I also had a great time browsing their vast selection of spirits and liquors.

How to order from Drizly

A search for bourbon on Drizly turned up 440 options, but you can narrow them down through filters for price, size, flavor, and more.

Shopping with Drizly couldn’t be easier. It works the same way as any other shopping website, in that you choose what you want and add it to your cart.

Navigating the website is easy, but the selection of products available is quite extensive. Searching for bourbon returns 440 unique results; that’s a lot of booze to choose from. To narrow things down, Drizly offers filters that sort the results by category, popularity, price, category, and even if the brands are minority owned. If you already know what you want, the site also has an easy-to-use search function.

All the regular products you’ll find in a liquor store are available through Drizly, including wine, beer, spirits, hard seltzers, and even ready-to-drink cocktails. It also offers a sizable selection of liqueurs and bitters for home mixologists, plus a plethora of soft drinks, snacks, mixers, bartending tools, and party supplies.

One thing to keep in mind when shopping on Drizly is which store you buy from. Drizly sources from multiple liquor and grocery stores based on which ones are closest to your delivery address. This can lead to inconsistencies in pricing and availability across markets and even to price fluctuations for the same product when sold by different retailers.

Because of this, the price of the product, the store minimum and the delivery costs often differ between stores. Once you’ve selected the product you want, the site will show you the prices of each individual store that has that product in stock, allowing you to select which specific retailer in your delivery range to purchase from.

When you have finished shopping and decide to pay, you can choose a delivery time. You can choose to have your order delivered as soon as possible, or schedule a delivery within an hour in advance.

A disadvantage of using Drizly is that retailers often charge more for the product than in the store. When I placed my order, I noticed that familiar bottles cost about $5-10 more than if I had gone to the store myself. Considering that there is a $1.99 service fee and delivery fee, things can get a little expensive compared to shopping in person, but the convenience may be worth the cost to you.

Drizly also provides each user with a referral code that they can share with friends. When someone uses the code to make a purchase, both people get a $5 credit that they can use to save money on their next order.

Drizly is unique compared to other delivery services in that it does not have its own delivery staff. They essentially partner with retailers to provide an online store where stores can sell their products directly to consumers.

When you order from Drizly, the retailers take care of the delivery service. That means delivery costs and time will be different for each retailer. Drizly provides tracking for your order and shows you when the store will receive, pack and ship the order for delivery.

Drizly promises delivery in less than 60 minutes. I ordered from a nearby liquor store that was able to deliver the bottles I ordered in just about 40 minutes. Of course, delivery method, distance and traffic all affect delivery time.

Aside from instant delivery, Drizly also allows retailers to ship bottles to you. The shipping cost is usually about $10 more expensive than the delivery cost. Again, shipping time varies between retailers and shipping services, but the estimated shipping time is visible when placing an order, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise.

If you’re short on time, can’t get to the liquor store, or need to quickly replenish a party, Drizly will drop by in no time. It costs a little more than going to a liquor store yourself, but the extra cost is worth the convenience.
